Consolea rubescens

Consolea rubescens is a species of cactus that is also known by the common names of roadkill cactus or snake cactus. It is native to the coastal regions of the southeastern United States, including Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. This cactus typically grows in sandy or rocky soil in coastal dunes, scrublands, or pine rocklands. It has a unique appearance, with flattened stems that are green to brownish in color and covered in small, dark spines. The stems can grow up to 60 centimeters (2 feet) in length and 10 centimeters (4 inches) in width. In the spring and summer, the Consolea rubescens produces small, yellowish-white flowers that are followed by red or yellow fruits. These fruits are edible but are usually quite dry and not very tasty. The name "roadkill cactus" comes from the fact that this plant often grows in areas near roads, where it is sometimes accidentally damaged or killed by passing vehicles. Despite its unusual name, Consolea rubescens is a hardy and resilient plant that can tolerate a range of environmental conditions and is an interesting addition to any cactus collection.

We mindfully paired the plant with a Oasien terracotta pot. This plant is sold as a set.
